With the move to the FanSided Network and We Wear the Ring, we’ll be adding a number of features. On Fridays, I’ll post a weekly men’s basketball recruiting recap. If you can’t wait that long for a news fix, no worries. I’ve already posted a recruiting list for 2014 and 2015 that I’ll be updating as the tweets comes in. You can find the lists on the menu bar at the top of the screen under Men’s Basketball.
Timing is a funny thing. Just as I’m about to begin writing weekly summaries, recruiting slows to a nearly grinding halt. It’s been a couple of weeks since we’ve heard any new offers from Duquesne and overall, we haven’t heard much since the July evaluation window closed. At the moment, we’re in recruiting limbo. Coaches have their A-lists of prospects and those players have offers in hand. Teams are playing the waiting game for the guys they really want. Right now, players are trimming their lists before taking visits. We’re roughly a month and a half from when the fall commitment season really picks up.
All that being said, the Dukes find themselves in the final eight for Kiski center Satchel Pierce who trimmed his list this week. Pierce is an athletic seven footer with a diverse post cut group, Kansas St, Texas Tech, James Madison, Florida International, Duquesne, Kent St, Jacksonville and Seton Hall. He has official visits planned to Kansas St, Texas Tech and James Madison, so I don’t think it’s much of a reach to suggest those three are the frontrunners. I haven’t seen him play, but on paper, he sounds a lot like Zeke Marshall.
Three star shooting guard Eli Cain was listed with high interest for the Dukes on Yahoo/Rivals. Unfortunately, he recently decided to attend St Benedict’s and reclassify as a 2015. We’re still in play for him but a guy like Cain could really blow up in his post grad year.
