You can tell the calender turned over because the recruiting news is beginning to pick up. NCAA teams have started preseason conditioning and we’re less than three weeks away from practice opening. As the temperature’s cool down, the officials and commitments begin to heat up. After a couple of slow weeks, we have a lot to talk about today.
A clerical point before we get to the actual post. Mid week I began to create player pages for the guys we’ve gotten updates on. You can check them out in the 2014 page. When I see a tweet about a Duquesne target, I’ll embed it in their player page and maybe provide link to highlight videos.
I’ll get the bad news out of the way first. Beaver County’s Ryan Skovranko continues to generate plenty of high major and BCS interest. I don’t recall him connected with the Tigers before, but he is hoping to take an official visit to LSU per a tweet.
No mention of Elijiah Minnie who was as recently as three weeks ago thought to be part of a package deal with his Lincoln Park teammate. These arrangements get thrown about casually in the summer months but rarely materialize in the fall.
Evan Bailey who held an offer from the Dukes, committed to College of Charleston according to his AAU coach Michael Duncan on twitter. The 6’5” swing was reported as a strong shooter and was rated as a three star on rivals.
Now for some good news. Mike White of the PG reported that the Luther twins would be visiting George Washington at the end of the week and that a Duquesne visit might soon follow. Ryan appears to be a primary target for Jim Ferry since the recruiting focus shifted to the class of 2014.
I don’t know the timeline for the Luther twins to make their college choices, but the sooner they commit, the better I think the Dukes chances will be.
The Dukes gave out at least one other offer this week to Michael Nzei, a 6’7” forward from New York. He also holds offers to Iowa, Iona, Hofstra and St Joe’s. From highlights I’ve seen, he looks like a thin kid with some room to add weight and was rated a 3 star by a handful of outlets. According Rivals, another forward Micah Littlejohn was also offered. I haven’t seen this confirmed elsewhere, but if true, I’d get behind it. He was recently announced as one of ten player to just miss the rivals top 100 and the competition for him doesn’t seem terribly fierce. He’s already visited Tulsa and visits Loyola-Chicago sometime in September. The question on my mind is did the Dukes jump on too late?
In other news, long time target PG Trey Dickerson left Murray St. Verbal Commits has him with medium interest in Duquesne, but his list there looks more like a history of his extended recruitment than it does a reasonable map for his future. I’d still be happy to have Dickerson, but I’m not sure where he’d fit at this point.
