Per Alex Kline, Duquesne got its first commitment of the class of 2014.
Eric James is a Columbus area swingman listed anywhere from 6’3” – 6’5”. Based on highlights, he appears to have a good all around game with the ability to hurt you off the bounce or with his jumper. He also looks solid in transition. James should provide size at the two or ball handling at the three giving Jim Ferry a versatile option on the wing.
While James recruitment has remained relatively low key, Scout rates him as a three star and he had offers from a number of good mid – major programs like Kent St, Cleveland St, and Ohio as well as from Bobby Hurley in Buffalo. All total, Verbal Commits list him with 11 offers. Duquesne was his only known offer in the Atlantic 10. He’s rated as Ohio’s 6th best small forward in a deep group of three’s. James visited the Bluff this past weekend.
All in all, I think James looks like a solid get for the program. Given his size and skill set, he might have a pretty high ceiling. . Recruiting for the fall was going to have its challenges given lack of immediate playing available especially at guard and small forward. To get a player who fits at either position and with his upside is pretty impressive.
As of now, Duquesne has two more scholarships for 2014 remaining and three total, two for graduating seniors Ovie Soko and Jerry Jones and one held over from Mamadou Datt’s late transfer.
