Duquesne women’s soccer caught fire this week so it stands to reason that the Duke of the Week should come from their ranks. Sophomore reserve Amy Vinopal distinguished herself by scoring two goals against Robert Morris while adding an assist against NJIT. The Dukes exploded for six goals this week and Vinopal provided a third of them. She had five shots.
– After a slow start, women’s soccer seems like it’s gelling. They absolutely dominated Robert Morris who looked like the better team on paper. The Dukes spent the entire evening giving the Colonials hell in the middle of the pitch and sending balls into space for their teammates to run onto. No one was sent off for Robert Morris but the Colonials looked like they were down two women. The Dukes out shot their NEC rival 28-6
– The men fared much worse against Robert Morris. The Colonials came out strong and dominated the first half. Play seemed to favor the Dukes in the second, but Robert Morris exploded for three goals in the final fourteen minutes. The Dukes took twelve shots, but only forced two saves while failing to score.
– Duquesne has posted a 4-1 record against Robert Morris so far this fall with their other victories coming in men’s and women’s cross country and volleyball. The Dukes and Colonials face off in football on 10/19.
– The men begin Atlantic 10 play with a road trip to Philly where they’ll face LaSalle and St Joe’s next weekend after nearly two weeks off. The woman are idle until Saturday when they face St Bonaventure.
