The Duke of the Week selection isn’t always easy. Sometimes there are a lot of people to pick from and it’s difficult to leave someone out. Sometimes no one did very well at anything and any selection is a reach.
Other weeks, it is very easy to find the top performer of the week. Someone performs to a level that represents the university so well that the cream rises to the top and it’s a no-brainer. That is the case this week.
Our Duke of the Week this time is the well-deserving Meghan Smith of the women’s swim team. Meghan was the star of the meet against Saint Francis this past Saturday, winning three races as the Dukes won the match 151 – 111.
This performance also was enough to earn Meghan recognition as the Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week.
The win was the first for the ladies this year after dropping a tough one to Oakland (131 – 130) and being beaten by Richmond 149-112 in the season-opening meet. It’s worth noting that Meghan won a race in that event as well and came in second in three others. She is a threat to win any event that she is a part of.
The women have a big meet on Saturday – a busy Duquesne sports day – in Ohio against St. Bonaventure and LaSalle. No doubt Meghan will perform well there, as she has in two meets this young season.
Congrats, Meghan Smith on being our Duke of the Week!
