At roughly 10:30 this morning, GoDuquesne broke the news that NCAA cleared Micah Mason to play immediately following his transfer based on hardship. He has practiced with the team, but has not participated in the scrimmages. He will play Saturday against Abilene Christian.
This morning’s waiver ends a long process that culminated with what many believe is a fair decision especially based on other recent NCAA rulings. In his afternoon story and on his twitter feed, Stephen Nesbitt provided us with some quotes from the player:
I’ve said all along that the Dukes were in a win – win situation with Mason. Either they get him for this season or they have him for a fifth year after Derrick Colter and Jeremiah Jones graduate. The ruling gives the Dukes an instant upgrade to their depth 1 through 3 and gives them one of the best, if not the best, three point shooters in the conference. Had he played in the A-10 last year he’d have topped Xavier Brad Redford by 6% to lead the conference. At the same time, he’d have played a more valuable role his fifth year after Derrick Colter and Jeremiah Jones graduate.
