It feels like this week’s addition of the recruiting recap is more of a list of announcements than an actual recap. We took a week off last week but there is still a lot of info to catch up with.
Announcement #1 : Long time Duquesne target Trey Dickerson has committed to Iowa after a stellar year at Williston St in North Dakota. His recruitment was a long and winding road that finally led him to Iowa City after he prepped for a year and spent a couple of months at Murray St. He also briefly committed to Seattle.
Announcement #2: Tarin Smith committed to Nebraska about a week after getting an offer from the Huskers. He was thought to be a top target of the Dukes but things escalated quickly with him.
Announcement #3: Dan Burt secured his second commitment from the class of 2015 when Ohio guard Paige Cannon committed to Duquesne last night per a twitter explosion. A 6’0 guard who averaged 15.7 points per game as a junior, Cannon was named all state Division II third team and proves once again that Burt has a soft spot for tall, under the radar guards. She joins Chassidy Omogrosso as a member of next year’s class.
Announcement #4: Plum product Nolan Cressler has elected to leave Cornell after leading the bad Big Red team in scoring. Duquesne’s become a soft landing spot for prodigal WPIAL players from Micah Mason to Wayne Capers which has led to a natural speculation of whether or not he could join the Dukes. It’s important to note that he has not officially been linked to the Dukes.
The only real recruiting news of value I have is that Rivals listed Kevin Punter of State Fair Community College in Missouri with an offer from Duquesne. Normally, I don’t put much stock into a Rivals check mark next to a schools name, but with the flurry of reported interest in JUCO combo forwards and knowing Jim Ferry hung around the Show Me State to recruit following the win against the Billikens, there could be smoke here. Punter averages 20 points a game including a strong free throw shooting percentage.
