Rated the top high school player in western Pennsylvania by WPIAL Insider, athlete PJ Fulmore verbally committed to Duquesne today. Diminutive but versatile, the 5’8” Fulmore did it all but play quarterback and line in North Catholic’s offense. A two star 247 sports , he had interest from and attended camp for some big programs like West Virginia, Penn St and Ohio St while taking an unofficial visit to the University of Miami. Ultimately, he committed early to the friendly FCS program right in his back yard.
There seemed to be a little confusion on twitter about what it means to be the top high school player in WPIAL.
PJ Fullmore was ranked #1 by the WPIAL Insider. The #1 player in the WPIAL has committed to Duquesne. Yes, Duquesne. Alrighty then.

Fulmore can be the best high school player locally without necessarily being the top college prospect just like the Heisman Trophy winner doesn’t always go #1 overall in the NFL draft. Fitting an archetype is often more important than results when moving up the ladder. He’s great at the level he’s currently at but there are red flags with his size that may have prevented some Division I schools from pulling the trigger on an offer. While he has all the tools to be a top high school player, he doesn’t look like an elite BCS player.
That said, I’m looking forward to his detractors wrong wearing Red and Blue.
The Fulmore verbal feels a lot like last year’s commitment from Nate Stone. The Dukes lucked out and Stone stayed true to his commitment. It’s still a long way from now till February. Let’s Fulmore does the same because he has huge upside at this level.
